Two new documentary features are coming soon to Apple TV+.
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Apple Original Films has picked up ‘Number One on the Call Sheet’, two new documentaries about “pioneering Black actors and actresses, with backing from Jamie Foxx, Kevin Hart, Angela Bassett and Halle Berry.”
Apple will debut the companion films globally on Apple TV+. Number One on the Call Sheet: Black Leading Women in Hollywood, directed by Shola Lynch, celebrates Black achievement in the film industry and what it takes for Black women actors to find success in the film business.
The film is executive produced by Bassett and Berry. The second doc, Number One on the Call Sheet: Black Leading Men in Hollywood, will be directed by Reginald Hudlin and similarly chronicles the experiences of Black male actors who paved the way for today’s Black American stars in Hollywood.
Jamie Foxx, Kevin Hart, Datari Turner and Dan Cogan will produce the second film. Reginald Hudlin and Bryan Smiley will executive produce both documentaries.
The company has invested heavily in non-scripted content for its streaming service. The most recent notable release is ‘The Year Earth Changed’, a new nature documentary that tells the story of how nature thrived again during the pandemic. The film is narrated by none other than David Attenborough.
“During this most difficult year, many people have reappraised the value and beauty of the natural world and taken great comfort from it,” said Attenborough. “But the lockdown also created a unique experiment that has thrown light on the impact we have on the natural world. The stories of how wildlife responded have shown that making even small changes to what we do can make a big difference.”
