Announced during today’s Indie World showcase, Oxenfree II: Lost Signals will release on the Nintendo Switch and PC later this year.

Oxenfree II takes place five years after the events of Oxenfree and stars Riley, a young girl who returns to her hometown of Camena to investigate mysterious radio signals. The new trailer doesn’t show off much, but we do get a glimpse of the strange happenings we can expect from the new game.

The original Oxenfree was met with huge acclaim from critics and fans alike when it launched in 2016 and was nominated for multiple awards, including Outstanding Achievement in Story at the 20th Annual D.I.C.E. Awards. It released on the Nintendo Switch in 2017 and is one of the best indie games on the system.

A graphic adventure played from a 2.5D perspective, the original Oxenfree followed Alex and her friends as they head to an island for a weekend party. Once there, they accidentally unleash a paranormal force on the island and try to stop it.
The gameplay is dialogue-heavy, and instead of dialogue occurring during cutscenes, speech bubbles appear over Alex’s head, allowing the play to choose between multiple dialogue options. Your choices in dialogue affect Alex’s relationship with her friends and will decide the fate of Alex’s friends as the game comes to a close.

We can expect even more paranormal thrills, haunting visuals, and an engaging narrative when Oxenfree II: Lost Signals arrives as a Nintendo Switch console-exclusive in late 2021. Until then, you can catch up with the mystery by picking up Oxenfree, available on the Nintendo Eshop for $10.
