New Pokémon Snap: Is your Photodex limited to one photo per Pokémon?

Best answer: No. Players will be able to submit multiple photos, including a different photo for each star category in your New Pokémon Snap Photodex. In addition to scoreable photos, players will be able to save any snapshots taken to their personal album to edit using different tools, filters, and other enhancements.

A photo storage problem?

In a game focused on Pokémon photography, one would hope you could keep any good photos you take! Unfortunately, in the original Pokémon Snap, that wasn’t the case. Though players could take up to 60 photos per level, Professor Oak was only interested in the best photos for his Photodex and would only take one for each Pokémon. So, if you submitted a better shot, the old photo is lost forever.

That’s not saying you couldn’t save any photos. Players were given the option to save up to 60 photos in a personal album, even if they didn’t contain any Pokémon. Still, a 60 photo storage really isn’t that much considering there were 63 different Pokémon in the game. However, in New Pokémon Snap, it looks like Professor Mirror will be more than willing to accept multiple photos.

Professor Mirror wants all the Pokémon photos!

With over 200 different Pokémon in the Lental Region, it’s not a shock that players will definitely higher capacity for saving photos in New Pokémon Snap. The official website suggests that while the main goal is to take the best shot, there several categories for players to really showcase their skills.

Each photo submitted to the Photodex is ranked by pose, size, direction, and placement, with additional points earned for other Pokémon. There’s also a “background category” that should be able to earn a few more. Every photo can earn between one to four stars, but unlike the original, players can register a photo for each star category. This means you can keep a total of four photos per Pokémon in your Photodex.

Creating your own Pokémon Photodex

If you want to hold on to even more of your favorite photos, don’t worry! You can add plenty to your personal Photodex. While it’s unclear how many you can keep, it has been confirmed that you can edit your photos to make them even more fabulous.

You can use the re-snap function to adjust different photo aspects from blur to zoom and add stickers, filters, or frames. If you want to go a step further, you can even show off your Pokémon Photodex photos if you have a Nintendo Switch Online Membership. With so many options for photo display and editing, you should be able to store quite a few. That’s definitely a far cry from 60.

New Pokémon Snap will release on April 30, 2021.
